Akti Kanari beach – Rhodes town
Rhodes Town is best known for Elli beach in the eastern part of the city, but in the western part there are two other beaches, Akti Miaouli and Akti Kanari. Often these two beaches go under the common name Windy Beach.
With great restaurants, fine shopping and a unique old town, Rhodes Town is ideal for a romantic holiday. The lovely Hotel Cactus (adults only) is close to the beaches, restaurants and shopping. The hotel has a large, beautiful pool area and nice sea views.
Akti Kanari beach in general
Akti Kanaria is a beautiful beach located parallel to the road of the same name. The beach is 500 metres long and quite wide, so there is usually plenty of space.
On this side of the city, the water has very nice turquoise colours, but there is often wind and waves. It can be pleasant at high temperatures. The sand is coarse with some pebbles, especially at the water’s edge.
Akti Kanaria has the usual beach facilities such as sunbeds, parasols, showers and toilets. For those arriving by car, the car can be parked on the road behind the beach.
Child-friendliness
Akti Kanari is not particularly child-friendly. There are often waves and in many places the water deepens quite quickly. Families with children should instead visit Elli beach in the eastern part of Rhodes Town.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities on Akti Kanari, but the almost constant wind provides good conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Most surfers, however, head to the beaches further south, especially Theologos and Kremasti.
Restaurants by the beach
There are restaurants, cafés and mini markets along the Akti Kanari road behind the beach. There are also opportunities to take sandwiches etc. down to the beach.
Rhodes Town
Rhodes Town is a lovely city with great shopping, critically acclaimed restaurants, beautiful beaches and a fairly active nightlife for those who want to party.
For most people, the old quarter of Rhodes Town is the highlight. A very well-maintained medieval town that is deservedly on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Ever since the city was founded, it was built around the Palace of the Grand Master and the Street of the Knights.

Akti Kanari beach can be seen on the bottom left of the map. The more widely known Elli beach is in the top right corner of the map. The northern part of the city is the new town, while the medieval town lies to the south-east (you need to move the map slightly).
